Earth Hour 2010, 800 Days to WGC2012

As the world turns off the lights for Earth Hour 2010 on March 27, the countdown to the 25th World Gas Conference (WGC2012) numbers at 800 days.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- Scheduled to take place on June 4-8, 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, WGC2012 is the culmination of Malaysia’s leadership in the International Gas Union from 2009 - 2012. This global gas event is held once in every three years and Malaysia is only the second Asian country to host this prestigious event.

The recent concerns on climate change has driven countries and organisations around the world to develop measures to save our Earth from further environmental deterioration and prevent the possible destruction of our planet by bringing down our carbon footprint.

Many of us are unaware that natural gas is the cleanest and most efficient among all the fossil fuels. The combustion of natural gas produces less CO2 compared to oil and coal and therefore will contribute significantly in addressing the climate change issue.

“WGC2012 will bring together leaders of the gas industry from around the world to Kuala Lumpur for the five-day conference to share knowledge on various natural gas related topics and discuss issues confronting the natural gas industry,” said Zahariah Abdul Rahman, CEO of WGC2012, the National Organising Committee of the World Gas Conference in 2012.

At the Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference last year, global CO2 emissions in the atmosphere were said to be at an alarming level and global temperatures are on the rise. If there are no mitigation efforts taken to curb the increase, we will be experiencing extreme weather changes like never before with potential disastrous consequences. Natural gas is a ready and available source of energy that should be considered as perfect substitute for the highly polluting energy sources to reduce greenhouse effects.

This topic will be one of the many issues highlighted in WGC2012, a five-day conference and exhibition event with the theme, “Gas: Sustaining Future Global Growth”.
