Rules & Guidelines

1. The International Gas Union Task Force 2 Youth program essay competition is open to youths globally between the ages of 18-30 in the categories provided here.
2. The essay competition will be conducted in a 3-stage format.

Essay Competition
Submission of a written essay on topics provided here.

Video Competition
Participants whose essays have been succesfully selected, must submit a video expressing views and opinions on the related essay subject matter.

Video/Tele-Conference/Interview
Succesful participants who have qualified from stage 2 will go through a phone/video tele-conference with our panel.

3. The essay must be written by a single-author. Multiple entries are allowed but each must be written on different topics, and only one essay per person will be eligible for a prize.
4. Successful winners of the Stage 3 will be selected to represent Youths globally at the World Gas Conference 2012 in Kuala Lumpur and participate in an interactive dialogue with Oil & Gas CEOs and industry leaders.
5. The essay must be original, previously unpublished, and reflecting your personal views and experiences that are related to the given topics.
6. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
7. Essays submitted must be in the templates provided and only in PDF format.
8. All essays must be submitted online at ItsNotMagicItsScience via the submission form found here.
9.. All fields provided in the essay templates must be completed.
10.. The length of the submission must be between 1,000 – 1,500 words. Anything written beyond will not be taken into consideration.
11. All entries must be written in English, single-spaced and using Arial font size 12.
12. Essays that are prepared with the help of any sources must be cited.
Details of these references should be listed at the end of the essay. You may use the APA author/year system or the Numbered References Method. Do not include citations and reference into the word count.
13. By submitting your essays, you hereby grant consent to use your name, photograph and submitted essay online and during WGC 2012.
14. Participants of the essay and video competitions must be available to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia around and during WGC 2012 dates, 4-8 June 2012.
15. All participants must sign the Declaration of Own Work in the essay templates provided.
16. All participants below the age of 21 must show proof of their legal guardian's permission to enter this competition and to travel to WGC 2012 in Kuala Lumpur during the stated dates, if announced as a winner, by providing his/her signature in the essay templates provided.
17. Only winners of the various stages of this competition will be notified.
18. All decisions made by the panel of Judges are final and not negotiable.


 
Dates and Deadlines
15 November 2011 Closing date for essay submission.

3 January 2012

Announcement of Stage 1 winners.

20 February 2012 Closing date for video submission.
12 March 2012 Announcement Stage 2 winners.
20 - 31 March 2012 Stage 3: Teleconference Interviews with Top 10 selected Video Submissions.
1 April 2012 Notification to individuals chosen to be part of the Youth Roundtable session at WGC 2012.
 

 
Awards:
1. Winners will win the opportunity to attend the WGC 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, fully or partially sponsored by the organiser.
2. Only 5-6 winners will be selected as Speakers at the high-profile Strategic Panel during the WGC2012 Plenary Youth Roundtable.
3. 250 participants will be selected to attend the Youth Carnival.
